Improv Games: Switch (AKA NO!, Change)

This game has many names. Change Detail, NO, ANOTHER and dozens more. We at EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH have gone with SWITCH over the years as it is the easiest on the ears and not NEGATIVE.

Two or more players perform as scene. Remember how we learned to start a scene (see handbook). Create a strong WHO and WHERE right away. BIG CHOICES / BIG VOICES!!!

The MC will yell “SWITCH”. At this time the last player to speak will change the detail of the last statement (REMEMBER NO QUESTIONS!!!) The player can change a word, entire sentence, inflection or activity… anything.

As MC, try saying “Switch activity” OR “Swicth Accent” etc. have fun

THE MAGIC of THREE: I will let psychology explain why, but since the earliest times, THREE is the magic number of comedy and anything else theater. For what ever reason, people’s ears are used to lists of three. In Shakespeare we learn how to deal with threes. Always look for these lists. There is a rhythm. ONE TWO THREE and than something happens. So as MC, try calling two switches in a row. But to avoid monotony, change it up. Call one.  Once the gets used to the rhythm of three, they will be on the edge of their seats waiting for another. Call four or more. The audience will love to see the players suffer LMAO.

A newer classic from live show
