AKA Headlines, while the description may seem involved, this is a very easy game to get the whole cast involved. Can’t sing? No worries.
Madrigal, as a musical form, dates back to 1500s and the basis for most modern choral styles. Knowing more about the musical form can help you play the game that much better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madrigal_(music)
As an improv game, Madrigal offers an unlimited potential and a great way to start a show. Each player gets a line from the audience. Most popular is to get headlines. This keeps the show topical. Also, this introduces a number of hot topics to the audience that can be called back throughout the show. Mix it up with politics, sports, world news and pop culture (AKA celebrity scandals)
At EIGTH IS NEVER ENOUGH, one player, usually the last in line, will get “Something you parent, teacher or boss says you don’t like to hear!”
Player one sings their line. Sing full out at first and then repeat softer so player two can introduce their line. Each player introduces their line until all are singing, harmonizing and/or fuguing to create a full choral work of sorts.
NOW, take turns introducing new lines by taking bits and pieces from various lines. Interchange subjects and predicates.
FINISH by slowing to a big chord.
CODA after applause, throw out one more quick punch line.
